Intern - Electro-Mechanical Engineer

The Opportunity:

The Electro-Mechanical Engineer Intern will be part of the research and development team at Croptix and will focus on the design, development, and testing of new prototype electro-mechanical systems that will enhance the utility of Croptix sensors. The intern will work closely with company staff throughout all facets of the development cycle. Devotion, dedication, and diligence are paramount to the role. The position reports directly to the Croptix CEO.

  • This position is designed to be a quality learning opportunity for undergraduate (junior/senior) and graduate students majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or other related fields.

  • This position requires regular, weekly, in-person interaction with the team located in our State College, PA office.

  • This Internship is offered in a “start-up,” entrepreneurial setting that offers unique opportunities to integrate, expand, refine, and synthesize knowledge from diverse disciplines. It provides circumstances where successful interns can apply higher-order thinking skills (critical thinking, interpretation, evaluation, complex problem solving, etc.) to “real world” work situations while acquiring and refining skills in marketing and personal accountability.

Croptix is looking to hire a creative and competent Electro-Mechanical Engineer Intern who can meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You may be a good fit if you are passionate about product design, engineering, prototyping, technology, agriculture, or protecting our food crops.

The qualifications listed below give a high-level overview of the job duties and requirements. However, Croptix recognizes that even the strongest candidates for the job might not have all the skills on Day 1. This work experience is intended to enrich and complement the educational experiences of our student workers.

Job duties and responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

​

  • Convert design ideas and sketches to real-world solid model designs and prototypes for testing

  • Design complex mechanical systems including integration of electronic systems, and optical systems including custom fiber optics, custom electrical cables, intricate metal parts and small plastic enclosures

  • Assemble and test complex electromechanical systems

 

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

​

  • Pursuit of B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

  • Significant experience designing parts and assemblies with Fusion, Solidworks, or similar CAD software

  • Must have working knowledge of common parts and materials

  • Experience ordering raw materials and other shop supplies

  • Experience using shop tools and machinery

  • Experience operating 3D printers/rapid prototyping machines

  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems and schematics

  • Must have fine motor skills for assembly of small parts, experience assembling small parts and mechanical assemblies with fasteners and other apparatuses

  • Must have working knowledge of common parts and materials

  • Must be safety conscious and wear required personal protective equipment

  • Ability and willingness to work 10-20 hours per week through the semester.
