DATA ANALYST INTERN
The Opportunity:
The Data Analyst Intern is part of the data team at Croptix focusing on the design, development, and improvement of analytical models. The data team at Croptix works with a variety of proprietary and secondary data sources, an understanding of basic data science principles, general organizational skills, and adherence to confidentiality is a must. The intern is expected to fully engage in routine, on-site work and collaboration with the team located at Innovation Park in State College.

This position is designed to be a quality learning opportunity for undergraduate (junior/senior) and graduate students majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or other related fields.

This position requires regular, weekly, in-person interaction with the team located in our State College, PA office.

This Internship is offered in a “start-up,” entrepreneurial setting that offers unique opportunities to integrate, expand, refine, and synthesize knowledge from diverse disciplines. It provides circumstances where successful interns can apply higher-order thinking skills (critical thinking, interpretation, evaluation, complex problem solving, etc.) to “real world” work situations while acquiring and refining skills in marketing and personal accountability.

Croptix is looking to immediately hire exceptional Data Analyst Interns who can add even more horsepower to our development, performance, validation, production systems and processes to allow Croptix to deliver new tools to our farmers to detect and mitigate crop loss. Croptix needs creative problem solvers with strong project management skills who meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, who are passionate about bringing technology solutions to agriculture to improve and protect food production.

The qualifications listed below give an overview of the job duties and the job requirements. This position is a paid, part-time internship and Croptix recognizes that even the strongest candidates for the job might not have all of these skills on Day 1. This is a work experience that is intended to enrich and compliment the educational experiences of our student workers.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Working independently and collaboratively on projects as part of our Analytics team.

Developing tools to help us process data more efficiently.

Building Machine Learning models to help improve our disease-classifying algorithms.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
-
Currently a student (undergraduate or graduate) in good standing with focus on B.S. degree in Math, Applied Sciences, Data Science, Engineering, or equivalent.

Clear communication skills: our deliverables come in the form of PDF reports, slide decks, wiki pages, Jupyter notebooks, conference posters, and conversations.

Python programming experience (numpy, pandas, scikit-learn).

Experience using some or all of the following machine learning algorithms: logistic regression, random forest, XGBoost, principal components analysis, linear discriminant analysis.

Familiarity with Jupyter, QGIS3, GitHub, Slack, G Suite (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive).

Preferred Additional Experience:

Previous work experience as a Data Analyst.

Familiarity with MySQL.

Experience building Python packages.

Experience working with spectral data and/or signal processing.

Experience designing experiments.

Knowledge of statistics fundamentals: (generalized) linear models, mixed models, outlier detection.
